Here’s a trick from Devananda that deserved its own post:

hey!

I just wanted to share a shortcut that I found on accident! And I didn’t know where to share it and since you asked…….

I have to type in Korean sometimes so I have the keyboard shortcut to switch between the most recent languages by pressing ⌘-space. This can be configured in the keyboard section of system prefs. This means when I press ⌘ space once it switches to Korean keyboard and I can type in Korean 안녕하세요! 밥먹었어요? and when I press ⌘ – space again it switches back to USA keyboard and I can type in English again.

Anyway, if you press ⌘ – space and hold down ⌘ and then tap space bar again~ a little quick view window appears that allows you to choose any of the other languages you have set there by using the arrow keys!

I mean you can’t really appreciate this one until you do it…but I guess that goes for all shortcut/ hotkeys?

We love user tips and tricks, keep them coming folks!

The iPad inspired Launchpad for OS X Lion is a cool feature, but it can be annoying if you can’t remove apps that you don’t use. Getting rid of clutter is a must for many, and the I’m sure that over the next few months Apple will release updates that allow an easy way to remove apps from the launch pad. Luckily, MacTricks has found a way to do this that is pretty simple. For all you button-followers, don’t be intimidated, just follow the simple instructions below and relax your mind.

Step 1: Open up Terminal

Step 2: Double click and copy/paste the string below into Terminal.

sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps; DELETE from groups WHERE title<>''; DELETE from items WHERE rowid>2;"; Killall Dock

Step 3: The Apps are removed and you can add the ones you like.

Step 4: If you want the original Launchpad restored, follow the same steps above with this string:

rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db; killall Dock

Also, to launch Launchpad, use this gesture:

Happy Launching!

Features, features, features. I think the next step is being able to drink water from your mouse, or check your blood sugar via USB pad and app (wait, could that be possible? patent pending…). But before the Star Trek Enterprise tools become available, we got these nifty improved features. Includes, uploading video to social media from Quicktime, easier file search capabilities, and how to create accent marks in OS X Lion.

1. Upload a video to YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, or Vimeo directly from your Quicktime player. Simply click on the actions arrow (the little box with the arrow popping out) on the Quicktime interface and there you’ll see the options. Also, if you want to strip the audio from a movie and create a separate file, go to File > Export.

2. Apple’s easy search capabilities can easily make us forgetful of where the heck we put stuff. Luckily, Mac’s file search capability keeps getting easier. If you are looking for a file and know the file type, and would just like to search those types so you can narrow your search, first go to your Finder. Type kind: and then the file type you are searching for. Pick a file type from the drop-down menu. Now your search is only limited to files of that type that are stored on your computer. Comes in handy.

3. Creating accent marks in OS X Lion is easy as pie. Simply hold down a letter for a moment and the accent box appears. Click the number corresponding to the accent you want and you’re done.

Never forget the underdog. Google’s Android has revolutionized the smartphone marketplace. For those of us with iPhones, we’ve never really had to think about how to setup our devices to work with our Macs, but what if we have an Android? How does one sync their droid, atrix, galaxy s, etc with their Mac? Its easy, lets take a look.

This article explains how to hook up your Android device (running android 2.2 froyo or later) with your Mac.

1. The first step is to connect your phone to your computer. Simply plug a usb cable into your computer, and the other end to the usb port on your phone. Some android phones have multiple methods of connectivity. To set which mode you would like to connect with, go to Settings->Applications->Development and enable USB debugging.

2. The second step is to sync your iTunes with your phone. A free program, Salling Media Sync, will do all of the work. Simply install the application, follow the wizard, and the app will automatically sync all of your iTunes media each time you connect your device.

3. Getting your Address book setup couldn’t be easier. Since Android is based largely on Google services, it makes sense to sync your Address book with Google. From Address book simply go to Preferences->Synchronize with Google. From now on any changes made in either Address book, Google, or your phone will sync automatically across all platforms.

4. Lastly, syncing iCal with your phone is just as easy as the Address book. Simply follow Google’s instructions and you will be setup in less than a minute.

Have any other synchronization tips? Share them here!

What is a disk image? A disk image is a complete 100% identical copy of your system the way it is. All your files, programs, music, pictures, everything. This means if your hard drive is currently 280 gig’s in use, your disk image will come out to be 280 gigs~. Disk images are also really easy to restore, and luckily do not require any additional downloads or purchases to make and use on your mac. Lets look at how this is done.

Go to Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility. When open go to File -> New and you will see several different options. If you create a blank disk image you will be able to selectively put what you want in it. This is the fastest way to do this. You can also make an image of a folder, or from a drive (if available). The option to make an image from your drive is the best option as it is a complete backup of your disk. I would like to note that depending on the size of your backup this can take several hours, or if you are just backing up a small folder it can take a fraction of a second. To restore a backup you can use the migration assistant or Disk Utility to mount the image you have created. Good luck!
