Turning your computer into a surveillance camera has never been easier. Vitamin D, a new software that is in beta allows you to turn your webcam, or any other networked camera, into a motion activated surveillance camera with advanced recognition features. Pesky roommate keeps using your computer when you’re not around? Catch them in the act! Set up Vitamin D, and have it either secretly record the entire session or notify you as it is happening. Here’s what you need to get started.
First thing you need to do is head over to the Vitamin D website and download their latest beta client, which is currently free and will allow you to use the software without interruption for at least a couple months. Once your download is complete drag the App to your Applications folder and run it. You will be prompted to setup a camera through an easy to follow interactive wizard, and then you are done!
By default Vitamin D is setup to record any objects that are moving on the screen. You can edit the rule or add new rules with advanced configurations such as object size, and location on the screen where the movement may take place. Check out this video from Vitamin D showing some of the features.
